She gave an excellent and engaging address in which she talked to the girls about her ambitions in the field of law, her tenure as Rector of Aberdeen University and her subsequent success as one of the most famous cooks in the world, having been translated into Japanese and Inuit, amongst other languages!

A former Rector of Aberdeen University, she was elected the first ever female rector of an Ancient Scottish University and the first Catholic since the Reformation. She served two terms and vocally opposed tuition fees; tuition fees have since been abolished in Scotland. Clarissa presented the girls with their prizes for academic excellence and for progress as well as a number of other cups and awards reflecting the girls’ achievements in a range of fields. She also proudly accepted a prefect’s blue Ribbon presented to her by the Head Girl, Kitty Owen- a distinction which had escaped her during her time at the school!
