British Invasion, Field Hockey Style

Sacred Heart was on the circuit of an East Coast tour in April by British students from its sister school in Woldingham, a rural suburb of London. The two teams of Middle Schools faced off in a friendly match, hosted by Sacred Heart.
The visitors stayed at host homes of School families. “Having the girls from England was such a great experience,” said Kirsten O’Haver, an eighth-grader when Woldingham visited. “They were the nicest girls ever and they seemed so happy and grateful to be here.”
“The Athletic Department was very excited to be part of this East Coast tour with our sister school from Woldingham,” said Sarah Hill, director of Sacred Heart’s Athletic Department. “We enjoyed the match and the opportunity to strengthen our bonds within the Sacred Heart Network.”
What the 16 members of the Woldingham field hockey did not already know about the American version of the sport, Sacred Heart’s “Red Team” showed them. U.S. field hockey is played in the fall, not the spring, but it did not matter. “It was so much fun. I was really happy to play field hockey one last time this year,” said Sacred Heart’s Elizabeth Walsh.
