Stuart raises £750 for their charity 'Chillies'

In September 2004, Stuart House decided to continue raising money for ‘Chillies’ throughout the forthcoming academic year. Our motivation for supporting this charity derives from the personal involvement of girls in Stuart House. Together with their parents and other families, these girls are members of the committee of 'Chillies' which aims to help less fortunate children. Stuart House was delighted to support their fund-raising endeavours with our own events, organised within school.

Money raised by ‘Chillies’ goes to charities that work specifically with children. The money raised last year supported 'SCOPE', helping children suffering from cerebral palsy; 'CLIC', supporting children with leukaemia and 'Dare to Dream', a small charity that takes disadvantaged children on holiday to France.

The tutor groups of Stuart organised a variety of fund raising events throughout 2004-5. These included cakes sales, ‘Stuartbucks’, a Christmas sale, and a bagel sale. We also arranged a whole house charity night, ‘Through the Keyhole’, when a panel of girls from all houses had to watch video clips of staff houses and try and work out whose house they were in!

With further contributions from our film night, when we watched 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', we managed to raise a total of £750.

In the Autumn of 2004, Woldingham also staged a fashion show, which raised a huge amount of money for 'Chillies'. Stuart House supported this event by helping to sell the ever-popular Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. The fashion show was a great success.

The money we raised was presented to representatives of 'Chillies' in Stuart’s house meeting on Friday 4th November 2005, during which Natasha Douglas and Holly Stille from year 10 gave a short presentation about the work of 'Chillies' and their personal involvement in the charity.

This is an extremely worthwhile cause which we have been pleased and proud to support and I am sure we will continue to do so in the future.
