We make guys on the 5th of November to celebrate the Gunpowder Plot. Although Guy (Guido) was never burnt at the time, people lit fires and burnt an effigy of the Head of the Catholic Church to show that the Catholics should be punished. It was only recently that they started burning Guy (Guido) Fawkes. Every year Woldingham Year 7s and 8s get together to make guys. This year we made them based on cartoon characters.
It was great fun and this is how we did it…We got our materials and we thought about the way we should use them, we then started making the basics (e.g. the body) then we added on the details (e.g. facial features). We made a huge mess and we were all covered in paint. It was very messy, but we all had lots of fun and the guys turned out great.
Digby (the Green House) made: 'Elliot the Dragon'
Duchesne (the Red House) made: 'Ariel the Little Mermaid'
Stuart (the Blue House) made: 'Dumbo the Elephant'
Barat (the Yellow House) made: 'Winnie the Pooh'
Digby won the Best Guy with Elliot
Year 9 made a guy of Mr Murtagh for fun and it was very…well…interesting.
