Higher Education & Careers
Having successfully completed GCSEs and armed with good results, the Sixth Form is an exciting time for girls to plan a bright and challenging future. The majority of our leavers proceed to one of the top universities in the UK, while a number will choose to study at prestigious universities in the USA, Canada or East Asia. There is a great deal of specialised support for students applying to Oxford and Cambridge, as well as for those applying for Law, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine and for those applying to Art and Drama colleges.
Our Higher Education and Careers programme begins in Year 7 with each year group having sessions with the Head of Higher Education & Careers. This provision is extended from Year 9 when students are also invited to the annual Universities and Colleges Fair and the annual Careers Fair. These fairs are major events, with the many workshops that run throughout the evenings being particularly valued. The school hosts a wide range of speakers from business, industry and the world of higher education at other times too; the Sixth Form particularly value the regular networking breakfasts with industry representatives.
In addition to our staff and student lecture series, we also have Business Partnerships with Gatwick Airport and the Sussex Innovation Centre in Croydon, which provide students in Year 10 and the Lower Sixth with hands-on experience of the world of work. Lessons in the Sixth Form cover topics from apprenticeships to the UCAS process to personal statements. It is no surprise that our Upper Sixth students receive great offers from universities and colleges in this country and abroad to complement the wealth of practical careers advice and information they have received throughout their time in school.
